It is no secret that Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured residents in the nation. Two-thirds of the uninsured are working adults who either do not have access to health insurance or cannot afford it. One-half of all working uninsured in Texas are employed by companies with fewer than 50 employees, and over 60% of these businesses do not provide health insurance for their employees, primarily because of cost. In collaboration with the Parkland Health & Hospital Systemand its neighborhood-based Community Oriented Primary Care Health Centers, the North Texas 3-Share Plan, a member of the TexHealth Coalition and a nonprofit organization, offers a plan for employees of small employers in Dallas County who have been unable to afford traditional health insurance. The plan – TexHealth Dallas County – emphasizes preventative care and wellness and covers a wide range of basic services including physician visits, specialty care, medications, care management, mental health and limited hospitalization.
